One of my favorite things is to take visitors of the Alamo City down to the Museum and Mission Reaches of the River Walk. This is the “local portion” of the river, filled with joggers, bikers and strollers enjoying a South Texas day or night. And it’s filled with amazing art that has been placed there by the SA River Foundation. This year, their medal is $10 and you can pre-order it now or purchase one at the awesome Rivertini event on March 23rd.
This is the ninth year of the event and seriously one of the BEST events in town—if you don’t have anything going on Thursday (and even if you do), make plans to go to this party!!! I’ve gone to a majority of Rivertinis and am sad that I can’t make it this year due to a scheduled vacation!
San Antonio River Foundation: 2016 Fiesta Medal

The San Antonio River Foundation released two Fiesta Medals this year and are available for purchase at the Mission Reach Flotilla Festival, a free public event on April 9th from 2:00 – 11:00 p.m. at Mission County Park!
The medal pictured above is called “Cheers to Fiesta” and has a glass in the medal that’s a toast their organizations major fundraiser Rivertini. The swirling gold pattern represents one of the newest art installations “River Return” while the bright colors match “Whispers.”
The medal pictured below is a collaboration between the River Foundation and the San Antonio River Authority and is for the Mission Reach Flotilla Festival, the perfect kick-off to Fiesta! The Flotilla is a canoe decorating contest and water parade. Anyone with a canoe or kayak is welcome to join the fun!

San Antonio River Foundation: 2015 Fiesta Medal

The SA River Foundation is responsible for many of the public art displays along the Mission and Museum Reach of the River Walk. Anyone who purchases a River Pachanga ticket for the River Parade on April 20 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. will receive a medal, along with free parking, free appetizers, free drinks and the ability to enjoy the parade away from the crowds.
Not able to make the River Pachanga? No worries! You can buy your medal online for $10, the only catch is that you will need to print out your invoice and bring it to the River Foundation’s location to pick up your medal.
San Antonio River Foundation: 2014 Fiesta Medal
The San Antonio River Foundation has the second medal available tonight at the Got Medal celebration at Bohanan’s. Their design pays homage to the longear sunfish, an animal that is indigenous to the San Antonio River. While you may not be familiar with the actual fish, you probably do recognize the design from the North Museum Reach of the river. It is the same as the school of fish that dangles from the overpass of I-35 and Camden in the sculpture by artist Donald Lipski. In fact, if you want to learn more about the art the next time use your smartphones to get more information in a virtual tour at the mobile-only site www.sarivertour.com.
The cocktail by the San Antonio River Foundation is called the Celebration of Preservation, an exquisite combination of tequila, lime juice, crème de violette, honey and grapefruit bitters. Be sure to buy this drink at the event as a portion of all proceeds go to support the San Antonio River Foundation. Can’t make it tonight to get a medal? You can stop by their office on Guenther Street in King William to pick one up starting tomorrow.
