You see, April is the most glorious time for us here in San Antonio. Not only do we have Fiesta, we also have NBA playoff basketball. And when our Spurs win in the playoffs, everyone wins because Valero Corner Store’s give out free coffee. It doesn’t matter the size, it doesn’t matter whether it’s plain or out of their automagical latte machine, it’s free.
I love to stop by a Corner Store after every playoff win because it’s such a fun atmosphere. Everyone is in a happy mood, customers and cashiers alike, and talking about the game. It’s something small, but something that’s definitely puro San Antonio.
I got the idea for this medal a year ago when an SA Flavor reader, Angela Garcia, sent me this funny meme with Manu. People went nuts after I shared it to the SA Flavor Facebook page and I thought that maybe it could be a clever idea for a medal. I’m super happy how it turned out and I hope that you like our fourth version of a food inspired Lotería Fiesta Medal!
One dollar from every sale will go to the South Texas Alzheimer’s Association. During this past year’s medal creation process, an the father-in-law of our a person who helps create our medal art passed away because of this disease. Hearing Ryan talk about how amazing a man his father-in-law was, I wanted to do something as a small token for him. We hope to raise a lot of money this year for this tremendous foundation through the sales of the El Cafecito Gratis Lotería Fiesta Medal!
